Newtown

Dementia Friendly Newtown (DFN) was the third community in Powys to be officially recognised as working towards becoming dementia friendly. The group are a community-led, voluntary, not-for-profit group that was established in June 2016.

Current regular activities in the area for people living with dementia are:

Knit & Natter

Held on alternate Friday afternoons at Jalna’s Café, Newtown, just by the Ladywell Car Park, Newtown (by the old Co-op) and easily accessible to everyone. 2:30 – 4:00pm. A friendly group environment which offers people the chance to interact with others in meaningful activity – we knit for charity or social causes and are happy to take on projects suggested by our knitters. The knitting group is led by staff from the Memory Service at Newtown Hospital: 01686 617240 / 617241.

Music Group – Newtown

Do you play an instrument or enjoy singing, or look after a person who does? Newtown has a new Music Group beginning on 28th February at the Library at 2.30pm. We will be using songs from different decades to sing and enjoy together. Songs and music good for the brain as we have a very good long term memory for music and words set to music – you’ll be surprised just how much you can remember! Enjoying songs and music in a group and using skills you might have forgotten you have is a great way to boost self confidence. Sing with others who remember and enjoy the songs that you do too!
